WHAT DOES THE PERFECT DIET LOOK LIKE?

In my experience as a women’s health and wellness coach, I’ve come to believe that there are as many perfect diets as there are eaters in the world.

Just like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, when we find the perfect diet, we really can have it all:

Great health, perfect weight, loads of energy, skin that glows, a body and mind that we’re happy to grow old in, millions and millions of followers on social media* See disclaimer for that last one.

BUT HERES THE FLY IN THE OINTMENT:

Your perfect place to live is probably not a cave house built into an Andalusian mountainside, your perfect job probably isn’t coaching natural mind/body self-care solutions to women, your idea of a perfect meal might not be fried bananas and masala chai eaten at the side of a busy road in India ( call me though, if it is) your perfect way to relax might not be meditation, your perfect way to exercise might not be jumping around a dance floor throwing some (seriously impressive) Bollywood moves.

You see what I’m getting at here….

THERE IS NO ONE SIZE FITS ALL

Your perfect diet is linked to so many different factors including your age, genetics, personal preferences, gender, the environment you live in, the season, your lifestyle, the amount of exercise you do, any health challenges you’re dealing with, the stage of life you’re in, your personal goals, your personal beliefs and all kinds of other factors.

The Pursuit of the perfect diet sometimes gets confusing, frustrating, maybe even expensive if you find yourself hopping from one diet to the next.

In my 40s I was vegetarian, I cooked most of my meals from scratch, I didn’t have unhealthy cravings, I never ate fast foods and my weight was stable.

THEN AT THE AGE OF 48 MY BODY LOO LAA!

My hormones were changing and suddenly  I was bloated all the time, my inner toilet was blocked, I had brain fog, joint pain, some really (really) low moods, I was unfocused and anxious and all at a time when I was getting certified as a Yoga health coach and setting up a new business, already working as an ‘’in demand’’ Yoga teacher and back home in the UK I had friends and family members who were dealing with ill health.

I was eating the same as always, but I felt frazzled and my body didn’t feel like my own anymore.

THE SOLUTION….?

When we feel off balance, disempowered or uncertain about what we should be eating, we have to first understand that the solution doesn’t lie with fad diets, made- for- you meal plans, deprivation, counting and weighing, going hungry, guilt trips or superhuman willpower.

Over the past few years, through personal experience and through what I noticed happening for my clients, I came to realise that the perfect diet is about understanding our unique constitution, tuning into and responding to our body’s evolving needs, making intuitive choices more often, eating local, eating seasonally, knowing how and when to cleanse and most importantly, knowing how to evolve our eating habits to support the life stage we’re in, especially the loo laa stage.

I truly believe that the answer lies in our own bodys wisdom.

BODY WISDOM

Has to be the final frontier to finding our perfect diet.

It might not be a quick fix, but when we know how to tune into our body’s innate wisdom and rhythms, we no longer find ourselves jumping from one trendy fad to another and we get a body and mind that we want to live in for a lifetime.

Live long and prosper healthily loves

Changing the world smelling of Passion Fruit

In my early 20’s and 30’s I worked for a natural skin care company in the English Midlands called The Body Shop. Much of my time there as manager were spent campaigning for human rights, for global and community change, on environmental issues and against animal testing in the cosmetics industry. We literally changed the world through our joint efforts. And we smelled pretty good too!

My 13-year career with the Body Shop opened my eyes to this:

When we work together we’re stronger.

Healing Hands and lots of Sand

In 1997 me and my husband became expats for the first time when we moved to the Middle East.

Over the years I had become qualified in different healing techniques like- Aromatherapy, Massage, Reflexology, Reiki, to name a few. There amongst the mystical desert scenery, in a place where camels still roamed the mountain roads, I went to work in a Holistic Healing clinic.

It was there that I noticed for the first time, when I make a move to help others, magic happens.

Do Yoga Be Happy

Fast forward 7 years and here comes the game changer:

In 2013 at the age of 46, I went to live and study in a small Ashram in Kerala, South India. I came back certified to teach Yoga and having started an ongoing love affair with India. Two years later I returned to the same Ashram and completed what was to be my first certification in the Indian science of Ayurveda.

Now, through my work as a certified Yoga Health Coach I teach people simple habits that uplevel their physical, emotional and spiritual health, by integrating self- care habits from Yoga and Ayurveda into their modern lifestyle.
